PAPER ARTS PROJECT INFORMATION

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

DIRECTIONS

Step 1: Choose Media

Spend 5-10 minutes looking up the following materials. Then circle the one you want to do for your final project on your Project Planning Sheet.

Step 2: Meet the Experts

Directions:

  • Click on the artist names below to see how the masters use their materials. Pick one that you like and look even more at their website.

  • Then in your sketchbook do a sketch of your favorite artwork from the artists you explored and write why you like their work.

Steps 1-3

Step 3: Technique Study      and     Step 4: Artist Study

Directions:​​

  1. Get headphones out so you can hear the videos.

  2. Watch the "overview" videos below.

  3. Find the Technique Study Video for the material you chose by scrolling down.

  4. Start the video to figure out what supplies you need.

  5. Pause the video and get the supplies out.

  6. Work along with the artist pausing the video in between techniques so you have time to do it yourself. 

  7. Write your name on your technique study, you will turn it in at the END of the project.

  3. Find the Artist Study Video for the material you chose by scrolling down.

  4. Start the video to figure out what supplies you need.

  5. Pause the video and get the supplies out.

  6. Work along with the artist pausing the video in between so you have time to do it yourself. 

  7. Follow along with the video and copy the artist step by step to create a final piece that looks just like theirs!

  8. Write your name on your Artist Study, you will turn it in at the END of the project.

Tips

  1. Start the video and watch long enough to get materials you need out.

  2. Pause the video between steps to give yourself time to complete it. 

  3. Wear headphones so you can HEAR the directions.

Step 5: Envision and Sketch

Overview:

  • In this step it is important for you to think about how you are going to incorporate your personal interests. Will you use color to create a mood or feeling? Will you use shapes? Will you create a paper template to help you track what your design will look like? Will you explore different materials? What will your main idea be? This is where you will make a plan for how you will complete your project. 

 

Directions:

  • Get our your Sketchbook.

  • Watch the video on the right.

  • Follow the directions to create your 3-4 sketches in your sketchbook.

 

Tips:​

  • What do you want your final artwork to look like?

  • collect any pictures you will need

  • Remember, a sketch is a rough draft and it’s primary goal is to help you problem solve your project and get your ideas out on paper!

  • Inspiration Ideas:

    • choose a theme like "weather"​

    • Your Experiences or Memories

    • What you See

    • What you Feel

    • Your Traditions or Culture

    • Techniques you want to try or experimentation

Step 6: Final Project

Directions:​

  1. Watch the "overview" video on the below.

  2. Make sure you have completed steps 1-5 on your project planning sheet.

  3. Find the video below that matches the project you chose and watch it. Follow the directions to get your project started. 

  4. If you can't find a video for your project, go back and watch the video from the artist study to help you with your process OR do additional research and find a process on YouTube or an article to give you ideas on how to start.

  5. Rewatch and pause as needed.

  6. Get out your final materials and get started!
