Step 1: Choose Media

Spend 5-10 minutes researching the materials below. Then, on your Drawing Project Planning Sheet circle or write the material you want to use for your project.

Step 2: Meet the Experts

Directions:

  • Click on the artist names below to see how the masters use their materials. Pick one that you like and look even more at their website.

  • Then in your sketchbook do a sketch of your favorite artwork from the artists you explored and write why you like their work.

Directions:​

  1. Watch the "overview" videos below.

  2. Get headphones out so you can hear the video.

  3. Get the materials you need to do the exercises for both videos.

  4. Click "play" on the video and then click "ctrl +" on your keyboard to 

  5. WATCH and LISTEN to the artist as they teach you. 

  6.  DO the techniques or draw along with them, pausing the video when you need to.

Tips

Step 5: Envision and Sketch

Directions:

  • Get our your Sketchbook.

  • Watch the video on the right.

  • Follow the directions to create your sketch in your sketchbook.

Tips:​

  • What do you want your final artwork to look like?

  • collect any pictures you will need

  • Remember, a sketch is a rough draft and it’s primary goal is to help you problem solve your project and get your ideas out on paper!

  • Inspiration Ideas:

    • choose a theme like "weather"​

    • Your Experiences or Memories

    • What you See

    • What you Feel

    • Your Traditions or Culture

    • Techniques you want to try or experimentation
